NewsIsle of Wight Solar Challenge 6 children from our Gifted and Talented Register have been working hard for the last term during their Golden Time to create a solar-powered car and a moving solar-powered model. They did have some help from Mrs Webb, Mr Webb and Dan Roberts (connected with the Solar Challenge). On Monday Lani, Bethany, Haden, Adam, Kieran and Harrison participated in the Isle of Wight Solar Challenge. Our car did not perform as well as some of the other schools, although we were pleased because it did finish every race! Our moving model was called the Barton Eye and was based on the London Eye. It was a very tall model with a rotating part. The Barton Eye won first place in the competition! The judges called it quirky! The children have won fifty pounds worth of technology resources for the school. They also now go on to compete in the Hampshire Finals in Winchester next month. Well done to all of them - they worked very hard and were excellent at team work.

Adam receiving the winning certificate.
The children then went on to compete in the Hampshire Finals at Intech. They had a great day completing all the science activities, and had a planetarium show. We weren't placed but the girls did an excellent job speaking in front of a large audience.
