Comic Relief 2009 and Book Week

Red Nose Day is here again!  The children came to school dressed up in clothes that were on inside out.  They wore red items of clothing and welly boots!  What a colourful bunch they were.

The children all designed a pair of wellies for their class teachers, who then chose a winner.  The winners were given a little prize of a book token for WHSmiths.  Well done to all the winners.

At playtime they bought red nose biscuits and cakes, which were delicious.  In the afternoon each class performed a special dance for the enjoyment of the rest of the school.  What a treat that was, the school is full of spectacular performers that just love to dance!  The school managed to raise an impressive £200.  Well done to everyone who contributed towards this figure.

Comic Relief also managed to coincide with our Book Week.  We hosted the Scholastic Book Fair and many of the families purchased books to enjoy at home.  The school gets money for every book sold, and as we sold over £400 worth of books we earned £179 worth of books for the school, so many thanks for all your effort.

All the classes paid a visit to the Lord Louis Library and chose a book to borrow.  The Year 4 children came and read to Years 1 and 2, who enjoyed all the stories.  Such lovely clear, confident readers.

During the week the classes wrote a story, with each class adding to the story, Cypress and Sycamore went first, with continuations from Ash, then Silver Birch, Apple, then Aspen classes.  The staff then acted this play out for a very appreciative audience consisting of the children!  What hilarious fun!

The children had the opportunity to enter the family book quiz, with 9 entries having all the answers correct.  The winner was pulled out of a hat, and the winner is... Deanna from Reception.

What a super week enjoyed by all.
