NewsNewport Carnival 2008 Congratulations to Carnival Club for their well-deserved first place in Newport Carnival.
For many weeks the club have been working hard to create some superb costumes and decorations. Then came the day of the carnival; the club met at school and got themselves dressed and face-painted, and walked together down to Matalan car park. The carnival started and they began to dance. They danced for an hour, entertaining the crowds as they went. Themed as Barton's Sparkling Sea, they were a swirl of blues and greens as they sparkled their way through the streets of Newport. They received many bursts of applause, cheers and people joining in with the dancing! Don't they look lovely?
About half way along the route they were presented first place in the Groups section and won a lovely cup. The club became very excited and their enthusiasm bubbled over through the rest of the parade. The judges were particularly impressed with the fact that the children had made all the costumes themselves (with a little adult help with the glue guns!!), had created a dance routine and looked like they were all having so much fun - which they were! Not to mention the fact that they looked striking in their sparkly outfits!
Mrs Webb, Miss Bowman and Mrs Goldsmith would like to say well done to everyone who has given up their time to come to Carnival Club, to the families who helped the children to get to the carnival and to all the members of Barton School who came out to support us along the way. We would like to say how very proud we are of all the children - their win was well-deserved.
They also turned up to Cowes Carnival and waited for over an hour in the rain, hoping for a lull so that they could participate. Sadly the rain got harder and we had to pull out. However, Cowes Carnival judges were so impressed with the waiting and the committment that they showed that we were awarded second place!! Well done to everyone who turned up. |
