First Place in Global Rock 2008

WE WON!!

Many congratulations to all the children in Years 3 and 4 that took part in the Global Rock Challenge 2008 at Southampton Guild Hall on Saturday 8th March.  They performed brilliantly, with focus and dedication and gave an emotional rendition of the story of Valentine Gray, the chimney sweep who died at the age of 10 at the hands of his master.

The audience was brought to tears as the children acted out the tragic tale with superb drama skills and fast paced dancing.  They were then wowed by the skillful manipulation of 3 very scary-looking six foot tall puppets by 3 very focused children.

The judges said the performance was "clever, rivetting and had them on the edge of their seats".  They were impressed by their "excellent account of a sad story", the soundtrack including a song sung by the children themselves, and their "mature drama skills".

The children won awards for best choreography and best concept originality, and of course, overall first place.

A big thank you to all the staff who have put in so many extra hours to help make this performance the success it was, it couldn't have been done without you.  A special thank you to Mrs Cunningham, Mrs Ashall and Mr Burt who have given their all.  Your hard work has paid off.

Thank you also to the many families who made the journey to Southampton to support their children and the school, and who cheered the children on very loudly!!

A big well done to all of the children for your outstanding performance, you are absolute stars.
