NewsWalk The Wight 2007 On Sunday 13th May children from the school walked the last 4 miles of the route, from Freshwater Bay to Alum Bay. 20 families braved the elements as they walked across Tennyson Down. Everyone was cheerful and in good spirits, despite the weather trying its best to dampen them!! At the beginning of the walk the children were given t-shirts and drinks bottles, and at the end of the walk the children received a medal each.
Many of the staff walked with the children and felt justly proud of the children's achievement, not to mention feeling proud of themselves having waked in the wind and rain instead of having a lie-in and staying warm and dry at home!! Congratulations and well done to each and every one of you for your committment and bravery! Our intrepid staff and headteacher!
Well done to Mrs Edwards who walked the second half of the route from Carisbrooke Castle to Alum Bay, which is 14.5 miles. She started at 9.30am and finished at 4.45pm. Well done to Mrs Webb who walked the entire route, which is 26.8 miles, despite having suffered an injury at Brook. She started walking at 7am and finished at 6pm. Over 80 children and their families have taken part in various walking activities and raised money for the hospice, but were unable to take part in Sundays walk. Each child collected stickers for their chart which amounted to their having walked the 26 miles over a period of time. Many thanks and well done to you all. So far we have raised over £1200! Well done. |
