Silver Birch Class Welcome to Year 2! Everyone settled in very quickly and have all worked hard. TOPIC In the first term our topic was called Animal Magic, and we are learning about ourselves and other animals. We learned about our bodies and senses, and investigated Africa. We have been taking photos of each other with our favourite toy, book and top using the digital camera. We visited Sandown Zoo to learn about animals and their senses.
In this picture Tracey is telling us about how the Spider Monkey uses his senses.
In the second term our topic was called Houses and Homes. We found out about kitchens of the past. We had a great time trying out a Victorian wash day- it was really hard work!
We borrowed some interesting old kitchen implements from Carisbrooke Castle Museum and practised explaining about them to each other, then wrote explanations about how they were used. Finally we organised and opened our own Kitchen Museum. Lots of parents came to visit our museum and they all liked it very much. We all improved at explaining through this challenge! In the summer term we have been learning about the seaside. We found out about sea creatures, and seaside holidays of the past. We had a fantastic trip to Bembridge Beach where we had a great time building sand sculptures, and hunting for creatures in the rock pools.
