JUNIOR ROCK CHALLENGE 2013

4TH PLACE AND WINNER OF BEST COSTUME DESIGN AWARD

CONGRATULATIONS ON A PHENOMENAL PERFORMANCE

THE JUDGES SAID:

"ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!"

"SUBLIME HAIR, MAKEUP AND COSTUMES"

"YOU BROUGHT THE COSTUMES TO LIFE"

"I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING QUITE LIKE IT IN ALL MY YEARS AT ROCK CHALLENGE!"

Here is the story of how we did it...

First, a dance expert came in to teach us some street dance moves...

Katy, the dance teacher, was very impressed with our enthusiasm and focused attitude and commented that we were the best group of children she had ever worked with!

We look forward to seeing her again soon when she comes back to help us choreograph part of our Global Rock dance.

Next, we got to know the story "Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish" by Michael Foreman by turning it into a storytelling performance for Year one. They really enjoyed the stories and joined in with the story actions.

Then, we invited Glenn Martin the artist to come and talk to us about his work transforming trash into treasure. We were fascinated by the process of designing and making the Coppins Bridge Dragon and Chalky the wight Dragon. This gave us lots of ideas for designing and making our own dinosaurs.

This is how we made the big dinosaur...

Meanwhile, we were working on choreographing different scenes:

The man dreams of travelling to the stars...

Assembling the workforce...

Building the factories...

Chopping down the forests...

The ancient ones awaken, causing an earthquake...

The dinosaurs tidy up...

The volcanoes errupt...

Burning rubbish in the volcanoes...

The magical transformation...

Bringing the forest back to life...

And a happy ending...

Also, we designed and made our own costumes...

In order to raise money, the whole school had a fete, where we recycled old things we no longer wanted or needed, sold treasures we had made, played games and even threw sponges at Mr Lashley!!!

After all that hard work, it was time for the big day...

We got up very early in the morning because we had to get to school by 6.15. We caught the 7.15 ferry and went to Southampton, where we had the most amazing day rehearsing, watching other schools, eating, dancing and doing workshops.

Then we got ready for the BIG performance. We looked INCREDIBLE!

 DVD coming soon...
